Warning of food labelled as "plant-based" that contains animal-based ingredients like meat, eggs or dairy

We are continuing to work with the CFIA to fix their errors with regards to their definition of vegan labelling and will update you as soon as possible. For the time being we wanted to further warn those looking for food suitable for vegans about some new concerning practices of certain manufacturers. Tyson recently launched chicken nuggets labelled as "plant-based" that contains eggs.

We want to be clear that when we discuss plant-based food we mean plant-based food suitable for vegans, but as society is shifting to more vegan foods corporations will try to push the boundaries when no legal definition exists. Expect a few more years of confusion as global standard emerge, legal definitions are created, and certifying bodies are recognized. Therefore, unless food is certified or labelled vegan by an entity that you trust always investigate yourself. We will continue to be watchful of manufacturer’s best practices, warn consumers and file complaints when appropriate. Please do not hesitate to file a complaint or contact us.
