Avoiding meat and dairy is the biggest way to reduce our impact on Earth. Reducing, or better yet eliminating, our meat, dairy, and eggs consumption is one of the only way to significantly affect climate change without the need for technological innovation, government, or corporate intervention.
According to broad scientific consensus, animal agriculture is responsible for 14.5% and possibly up to 51% of all global emissions, about the same as all means of transportation put together.
In another word, all cars, planes, buses, trains, boats, and motorcycles would suddenly vanish it would have about the same effect as everyone adopting a plant based diet.
One of the grave consequence of the climate change is Drought.
The average household consume about 190 000 litres of water per year. We spend millions of dollars per year in various water saving measures: low flow shower head, low flush toilet, shorter shower, efficient appliances and aerator. With the aforementioned high cost methods, about 35% of the yearly water consumption can be saved or 66500 litres of water per year per household can be saved.
However, there is much more cost effective way to reduce water consumption; by Eating less meat.
Producing 1 kg of beef takes about 15500 litres. In order to save the equivalent of 35 % of yearly water consumption, we can reduce 4.3 kg of beef consumption per household per year.
Why wait for government or corporations to act? Let’s work together today to spread awareness and help save our planet.
