It is very sad news, but should not be a surprise to anyone. Many SPCA and shelter throughout Canada support the killings of pigs and other animals to raise funds in order to save small companion animals. We should not be surprised when an activity we ourselves condone is done by others. Every pig, not only potbelly pigs, and every other sentient being deserve the right to be happy, enjoy their natural life and be free from suffering. This is why we should lead by example and we renew our call for shelter and SPCA to adopt a vegan policy in their by-laws. Furthermore, we do not have to wait for government to enshrine the right of animals into law we can speed things up ourselves by going vegan.
We welcome the proposed resolution to label processed meat as the dangerous level 1 carcinogenic substance that it is. In addition, while we do not have such regulations in Canada we would ask that producers adopt this voluntary labeling measures. Furthermore, we ask that grocers do the ethical thing as well and stop encouraging people to get cancer by advertising processed meat in their flyers. Profits should not come before lives.
If you have missed veganuary to go vegan now is the time during heart month. The American Heart Association was reminding us late last year that a plant based diet had the most impact in reducing the risk of heart failure. What are you waiting for? Join with one of your local communities, download a vegan guide or send us an email to get started.
